Gelite Air - Wheelchair Pressure Relief Cushion

Our innovative gel and air wheelchair cushion is specially designed to provide pressure relief from pressure sores by combining our unique thermoplastic memory gel technology with air cavities for maximum immersion, comfort and relief. A number of studies point to interface pressure between the body and the seating surface as the primary contributor to the formation of pressure sores. Wheelchair users, who spend an extended amount of time seated, are at great risk from pressure sores (decubitus ulcers). Working with an NHS specialist seating service, we have used detailed pressure mapping technology to help maximise the pressure relieving properties in the design and structure of the memory gel layer. The circular cell honeycomb structure of our gel air chambers distributes weight evenly over a large surface area, spreading pressure evenly across the skin. This helps prevent the formation of pressure points, which lead to pressure sores. Our flexible, self-contouring and softly enveloping Gelite Air Wheelchair Pressure Relief Cushion delivers outstanding postural support, pressure relief and redistribution.

"I have tried many cushions in the past and I have found that sitting for a long period of time really hurt my bottom and made me uncomfortable.

However, with the Gelite Air wheelchair pressure relief cushion I have found a comfortable cushion that supports my bottom for long periods of time, and aids my pushing performance as it helps my body posture to keep upright.

I would highly recommend the Gelite Air wheelchair pressure relief cushion to everyone that wants total comfort in wheelchairs.”

FAQs

How Do Pressure Relief Cushions Work?

Pressure relief cushions work by disrupting a person’s weight evenly over an increased surface area. This reduces peak pressure points on the skin, helping to prevent pressure sores and provide relief.

How Does the Gelite Air Wheelchair Pressure Relief Cushion Provide Maximum Pressure Relief from Pressure Sores?

Through our work with an NHS specialist seating service, we have used detailed pressure mapping technology to maximise the pressure relieving qualities in the structure and design of the memory gel air chamber layer. The circular cell honeycomb structure of the gel air chambers distributes weight evenly over a large surface area, spreading balanced pressure evenly across a user’s skin. This helps prevent hot spots of pressure points that lead to redness, irritation and pressure sores. The circular cell honeycomb structure of the gel is highly responsive and flexible. The structure flexes to move with skin as the user moves. This self-contouring property of the Gelite gel reduces friction and shear forces, which cause rubbing against the skin and can increase the risk of pressure sores.

The composition of Gelite Gel is highly flexible and reacts to even small movements to provide balanced pressure redistribution, while offering stable postural support. Gelite gel’s properties also offers excellent shock-absorption and high vibration dampening qualities to further reduce friction and shear. Overall the composition of the Gelite Air Wheelchair Pressure Relief Cushion helps prevent and relieve pain from pressure sores.

Who should use the Gelite Air Wheelchair Pressure Relief Cushion?

The Gelite Air - Pressure Relief Cushion is in the ‘Very High for Tissue Integrity Protection’ risk category, meaning it is suitable for use for people at very high rist of developing pressure sores.
